OLD STYLE: DIO COFFEE
DIO COFFEE is a new coffee brand located in London Canary Wharf in October 2019. In the beginning, the client has directed the brand as Japa-nese-style hand-brewed coffee. I tried to present a feeling of conflict because the oriental Japanese coffee with the retro-style characters will be in sharp contrast with the modern Canary Wharf. This will make the brand standout and more attractive for the customers. Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through the 19th centuries. The term ukiyo-e trans-lates as ‘pictures of the floating world”, and having a coffee is like holding a piece of driftwood in this floating society.

The final version of DIO COFFEE branding design. Based on local history and culture, integrating the brand with local char-acteristics will make a deeper and more memorable impression to the consumers.
REFERENCE – CANARY WHARF /
Canary Wharf takes its name from the quay where fruit and vegetables from the Mediterranean and Canary Islands were imported. The disused Docklands site, formed by a loop in the River Thames, was turned into a second financial district to rival the City of London after 1987.
REFERENCE – UKIYO-E /
Ukiyo-e is a genre of Japanese art which flourished from the 17′ through 19′ centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties; kabuki actors and sumo wrestlers; scenes from history and folk tales; travel scenes and landscapes; flora and fauna; and erotica.
